For a woman, getting married, having children, and becoming a mother seems like a given, but is it really?
Maniniwei says, "My child. My marriage. These are stains that can't be wiped clean. This marriage is a series of slow scratches that can't be erased."
Following her previous book Shine with Your Imperfections, this work is another reflection on her life. In this marriage, the woman faces both overt and covert forms of violence. Her time, energy, and spirit are completely consumed by her child and household chores, making life feel increasingly empty. This "hollow plunder" is metaphorically described by the author using pale imagery, portraying the drain on her life.

Maniniwei

A Malaysian Chinese who has lived in Taipei for over 20 years. She was a fine arts student but hates the department; however, she returned to creating at the age of 30. Her works include essays, poetry, and picture books.
